Hamlets dilemma- aubrey

I loved this scene. Hamlets dilemma was very interesting because it let us into Hamlets mind. We could literally read his thoughts. My opinion on Hamlet as changed drastically from when his character was first introduced to me. He seems more calculating in his time of crave. This scene automatically let me know that Hamlets craziness is nothing but an act. He is very capable of thinking clearly. If he were as crazy as he leads on to be, Claudius would be dead.
Some people feel as though Hamlet is wrong for wanting to kill .However, I feel the exact opposite. I feel like Claudius should be brought to his demise. His guilt does not seem genuine enough to me, and his prayer was in vain. I want Claudius to crawl on his knees at Hamlet, and the kingdoms feet and reveal his lies.
Hamlet wants his revenge on Claudius because his father was killed without being able to repent for his sins. His plan is so smart to wait until Claudius is dinning so that he can be sent to the middle of heaven and hell like the old king.
I love the way the was scene was shot in the Golden haired Hamlets version. It was so suspenseful and it had me on my toes the entire time. I was a little scared when I heard Hamlet talking, I thought he was going to get caught, but it was all said in his head. I jumped at the thought of how close hamlets dagger was to Claudius’ head. Oh my Goodness how I screamed within my head when they showed a quick clip of how it would have been like if Hamlet actually fully pressed the dagger through the whole. I loved Hamlets dilemma because it got me thinking.,

  1. "This scene automatically let me know that Hamlets craziness is nothing but an act. He is very capable of thinking clearly. If he were as crazy as he leads on to be, Claudius would be dead.". Even as I read the rest of your blog these two sentences still lingered in the back of my head! It was a point that never crossed my mind, and really proves the interpretation that Hamlet was indeed acting crazy. When you mentioned feeling like Hamlet would get caught in the Branagh film, I agreed. Even though I knew Hamlet would escape the room unnoticed, the mood was set to keep the audience on edge and to build up suspense.

  2. I totally agree with you on everything! This scene really did change my whole perception on Hamlet, I feel like he is more sensitive deep down, but still portrays the rock solid outer personality. Do you think Hamlet should kill Claudius or should he just be praying for forgiveness as Hamlet's feet? I don't think that would satisfy Hamlet at all, but I think having Claudius beg for his life is not too far fetched from just killing him at first sight. Meaning having him beg for his life isn't so bad but sticking with the plan is also good, too. reading your blog gave me a different outlook on the scene even though we agreed on the same things. I am honestly reconsidering Hamlet's original plan, taunting Claudius is a great idea and a pretty funny part to read.

  3. This scene also made me change my opinion on Hamlet. Now I no longer think of his as a mad man, but a very calculating mad man. I also agree that Claudius is not honest in his prayer because why would he ask for forgivness but keep everything he does not deserve. Yes, he should kneel down before Hamlet beacause that should be the person Cluadius apologizes to.

  4. This scene really gave me an insight to how articulate Hamlet really was. I agree with you! I want Hamlet to seek revenge but his plan to murder Claudius is just too risky Hamlet waiting to kill Claudius was smart but to be honest if he does kill him, it doesn't really fix anything (besides the fact that it fulfills King Hamlet's wish for revenge). People are still going to think he's crazy and no one will trust him.

  5. My thoughts that Hamlet is not actually mad in this scene is shown clearly and I agree that he is just acting crazy. I agree that if Hamlet was truly crazy he would have been able to murder Claudius with a better plan. I just disagree with one point, I think that Hamlet should have avenged his father and murdered Claudius then. I don't believe there was a better time Hamlet could have killed Claudius because he was not alert at the time. I do agree that it was a suspenseful scene and I actually thought that Claudius would have felt the dagger Hamlet had pointed at him. Overall, I agree that the "Golden Haired Version" was the best one that portrayed Hamlet's true character in the scene.
